The Department of Tourism is inviting applications for the Administrative Assistant positions for 2025. These roles are based in Pretoria and offer a great opportunity to work in a professional and organised environment within the Public Service.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered:
- Matric / Grade 12 certificate.
- Minimum of 1 year of relevant working experience.
- Computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Good telephone etiquette and professional communication skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with people at various levels.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- High level of reliability, discretion, and professionalism.
- Knowledge of Public Service prescripts and policies.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful candidates will perform administrative and secretarial duties to support management, including:
- Handling telephone calls and referring them appropriately.
- Typing and formatting documents for managers and staff.
- Operating office equipment such as printers, scanners, and photocopiers.
- Making travel and accommodation arrangements and checking related documentation.
- Organising meetings and departmental events, including venue bookings, invitations, and refreshments.
- Processing travel and subsistence claims and handling invoices.
- Recording and preparing minutes of meetings.
- Drafting reports and correspondence when required.
- Managing filing systems, leave registers, and telephone accounts.
- Receiving, recording, and distributing incoming and outgoing correspondence.
- Procuring standard items such as stationery and refreshments.

and such qualifications (s) and other related documents (s) will be in line with the requirements of
the advert. Non-RSA Citizens/Permanent Resident Permit holders in possession of foreign
qualifications must be accompanied by an evaluation report issued by the South African
Qualifications Authority (SAQA) (only when shortlisted). Applicants who do not comply with the
abovementioned instructions/ requirements, as well as applications received late, will not be
considered. Correspondence will be limited to shortlisted candidates only. All shortlisted candidates
shall undertake a (1) practical exercise as part of the assessment method to determine the
candidate’s suitability based on the posts’ technical and generic requirements, and (2) an ethical
conduct test. Candidates will further be subjected to a personnel suitability check (criminal record,
citizenship, credit record checks, qualification verification, and employment verification). Some of
the interviewed candidates for Senior Management level vacancies may be subjected to a 2-day
competency assessment that will test generic competencies. Appointment will be subject to the
signing of the performance agreement, employment contract, and annual financial disclosure, and
must attain a security clearance applicable to the post. The Department reserves the right not to
