
Necsa’s Radiation Protection Technician (RPT) Learnership Program
Minimum Requirements:
Applicants between the ages of 18 and 35 years with Grade 12 Mathematics and Physical Sciences should upload the following on the provided electronic platform:
- Personal and qualification details
- Certified copy of RSA Identity Document
- Certified copy of Grade 12 certificate
- Proof of residence
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to write an aptitude assessment test as part of the selection process.
After completion of the programme, successful learners will be able to:
- Communicate about the hazards of radiation and contamination in the workplace and basic radiation protection.
- Communicate about workplace radiation and contamination monitoring.
- Select radiation and contamination monitoring equipment that suits the
- Type,
- Purpose, and
- Location of specific measurements.
- Monitor radiation and contamination according to specified requirements.
- Stick to radiation protection measures specified in given procedures.
- Manage your own relations in the workplace for optimal productivity.Background theory to prepare candidates for application in the practical skills part of the course will be offered in aspects such as:
- Basic radiation protection.
- How radiation and contamination monitoring equipment function.
- What factors can influence the usefulness of measurements?
- What are some of the specified requirements for radiological surveillance etc?
Radiation Protection Opportunities:
After completing the course, successful candidates will be able to work as Radiation Protection Officers at various industries such as mining, medical institutions, nuclear installations (such as Necsa and Koeberg power station); construction etc.
