City of Cape Town Wildland Firefighter Free Training Intake
DIRECTORATE: SAFETY AND SECURITY

SALARY: Basic Salary: R 204 812 p.a.

ELIGIBILITY: Internal and External
Minimum Requirements:
- Grade 12 Certificate
- 18 years or older
- Must be willing to complete practical and theoretical firefighting training
- Be stationed at any fire station within the City of Cape Town
- Work 40 hours per week and shifts
- Previous experience in a fire-related industry would be advantageous
- Required to work additional hours/overtime on short notice
- Required to work in a team and cope with stressful situations
- No criminal record
NOTE:
- All shortlisted candidates will be required to undertake and pass the following compulsory fitness test
- Reach test (1.9 m)
- 2.4 km run (Males 12 minutes and Females 13 minutes)
- Push-ups (30 in 60 seconds)
- Sit-ups (30 in 60 seconds)
- Dead load carry (2 x 25 kg drums at a distance of 100 m)
NOTE: Candidates who pass the physical test will:
- Be required to pass a written assessment (mathematics and English comprehension) and interview
- Be required to submit their fingerprints or identity numbers for the purpose of checking criminal records. No other criminal clearances will be acceptable
- Be required to undergo a medical evaluation
- Be required to undergo a compulsory drug test
Key Performance Areas:
- Carry out fire-fighting operations under guidance.
- To respond to and combat vegetation fires.
- To check and maintain fire-fighting equipment.
- Check, clean and maintain firefighting vehicles.
- To carry out fire station duties and maintenance.
- Assist with clearing of fire breaks.
- Undergo continuous training.
- Ensure adequate records are maintained.
