Minimum Requirements:

  • A Grade 12 Certificate or ABET/AET NQF Level 4 qualification recognised by SAQA.
  • Exposure to a hospital environment and patient care will be an added advantage.
  • Ability to lift and move heavy equipment and supplies.
  • Ability to work with heavy-duty laundry and cleaning equipment.
  • Willingness to work with human waste, bodily fluids, and corpses where required.
  • Ability to operate machinery such as lawnmowers and weed eaters.
  • Ability to stand and work for long hours (up to 12 hours daily).
  • Willingness to work shifts, including:
    • Night duty
    • Weekends
    • Public holidays
  • Willingness to work overtime when required.

 

Successful candidates should have knowledge of:

General Duties

  • Loading and offloading goods
  • Assisting artisans and tradesmen aides
  • Keeping tools safe and clean

Porter Duties

  • Transporting patients using stretchers or wheelchairs

  • Recording incoming and outgoing linen daily
  • Handling soiled and clean linen according to infection control procedures
  • Cleaning laundry equipment and facilities
  • Following health and safety regulations

Cleaner Duties

  • Cleaning offices, passages, and ablution facilities
  • Emptying dustbins and collecting waste
  • Maintaining cleaning equipment and materials
  • Performing additional cleaning tasks when required

8. Limited space in Parts E, F, and G of the Z83 form may be supplemented by indicating “Refer to CV” or “See Attached.” However, the CV must contain all relevant information. Missing information not reflected in the CV may lead to disqualification.

9. The Curriculum Vitae (CV) serves as an extension of the Z83 application form. All information provided in the CV must be accurate, complete, and truthful. Accountability rests with the applicant for any information submitted.

10. Questions related to conditions that prevent re-appointment under Part F must be answered. Applicants currently employed in the Public Service are not required to complete this section, as it is intended for individuals seeking re-employment.

11. Applicants holding foreign qualifications are responsible for ensuring that their qualifications are evaluated by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA). Proof of such evaluation must be submitted when required.

12. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend an interview. At that stage, certified copies of qualifications, identity documents, and proof of registration with relevant statutory bodies (where applicable) must be presented.

13. All shortlisted candidates will be subjected to two pre-entry assessments:

  • practical assessment relevant to the job.
  • An integrity and ethical conduct assessment, in line with the Directive on Human Resource Management and Development for Public Service Professionalisation effective from 01 April 2024.

14. Successful candidates will undergo Personnel Suitability Checks in accordance with the Directive on Human Resource Management and Development for Public Service Professionalisation. Additionally, appointed candidates may be required to disclose financial interests within 30 days of assuming duty.
